Meyer Sound Senior Product Manager interprets the latest Panther line array for you

Author:

Andy Davies, senior product manager at Meyer Sound, stressed how the California-based manufacturer is rejuvenating and preparing for the return of live events when they built a new line array system during the shutdown of live events brought about by the new crown outbreak.

1

1. Why did you choose to launch the flagship line array system during the outbreak?

We have been paying attention to the needs of the market, and have been collecting data and opinions on large-size sound systems, and then developing a brand new product through research and innovative technology, which mainly focuses on size, weight, performance and emerging technologies. Key indicators. And as we see some industries gradually reopening, we are clearly told that there will be a lot of pent-up demand for live activities and a desire to get back to work with the right equipment, tools and methods.

2. What changed in the market during the new crown epidemic?

Before the pandemic, one of the industry trends was that fewer and fewer artists would tour for long periods of time at venues of the same size or characteristics. Typically, venue capacity changes dramatically during the course of a tour, or commercial performances are mixed with festive theatrical performances, making it difficult for large systems to be used for long-term and continuous work, and this epidemic has further accelerated this process. As different regions open up in different ways at different times, we are seeing an increasing demand for flexible sound reinforcement solutions that are suitable for various venue shapes and sizes.

How is the new Panther sound system helping customers adapt to the new normal?

Panther system provides users with the ability to meet high-power audio applications and is suitable for a variety of daily deployment scenarios. This is a tempting choice for rental companies, as it takes full care of both large and small shows. For installation applications in theater, dance and music performances, the Panther system undoubtedly converges all the performance required for the performance into a cabinet that caters to the size and weight of modern architectural design. And this kind of business case is all over the world, we can clearly understand in the Asian market.

4. How do you see the development trend of AoIP in the field sound reinforcement and fixed installation market?

Panther the blessing of Milan certification, there is no doubt that the benefits of AoIP are spreading throughout the industry. Manufacturers and end users are seizing the opportunity to use standardized cabling and access more data and functionality. In the field of fixed installations, we recognize that the desire to use AC routing and IP cabling more and more in all applications is likely, and it is really great to be able to bring large-size line array system solutions into this world.

5. Why choose Milan over other AoIP solutions?

We 've been working on the AVB project since the beginning because we recognized that an open source, time-sensitive network has the potential to truly replace analog connectivity in the audio world. In our work, it is crucial that we ensure that all devices work together seamlessly. Milan protocol based on AVB technology is the only AoIP solution that can guarantee the audio transmission performance required by high-performance line array systems. This is one of the core reasons why Meyer Sound and other leading line array companies have chosen to adopt this standard for high-performance system deployments. Being able to lead the further development of Milan with other manufacturers is a great opportunity for Meyer Sound to help drive the industry forward, and we look forward to seeing further growth in products using the Milan protocol in 2022.

6. How do you achieve greater output power from a smaller box?

One of the core advantages of the built-in power amplifier system is that we can achieve high efficiency by fully optimizing the electronic equipment and drive unit to work in a perfect synergy, without the need for longer audio cables or more power amplifier cabinets. We know that the new generation of drives can handle more power, but we need to provide this power in an integrated box to meet the compact cabinet and weight requirements.

How can efficiency gains be translated into real-world cost savings?

The efficiency of the Panther system saves the user money in several ways. The most obvious is to reduce the cost of electricity at the site, but this is only one aspect. A more compact and efficient box means that the cost of fuel to transport to the site will also be reduced, and it will also require less infrastructure such as rigging hangers, which will further reduce transportation costs. Since the cost of electricity and fuel varies widely around the world, it is difficult to put an exact figure on the savings. Therefore, compared with the previous generation system, the Panther is significantly lighter in the field of transport.
